Introduction: West Somerset Yeomanry

The West Somerset Yeomanry was an infantry regiment of the British Army first raised in 1794.
It participated in the Second Boer War (South Africa 1900-01) as Imperial Yeomanry; in World War I as Yeomanry Infantry (Gallipoli 1915, Egypt 1916-17, Palestine 1917-18, France and Flanders 1918); and in World War II (North-West Europe 1944-45) as a Royal Artillery regiment. It was disbanded in 1988.
This flag was discovered in a Dorset warehouse in 2019 and is attributed to the West Somerset regiment.

Description of the flag

The Yeomanry's badge was the Somerset Dragon and its colours are recorded officially recorded as being "Violet, Campari red" and a narrow strip of "corn", as attached.
Dave White, who first came across the flag tells me that he believes the blue/purple fimbriation could indeed be described as "violet".
I think the combination of the rampant dragon, the unusual usage of violet and the narrow strip of yellow make it too much of a coincidence to be attributed to anything else.
